It is almost back to school time which means it is time to start thinking about lunch boxes and how best to send your children to school with their lunch. There are so many different lunch boxes on the market these days that you may find yourself wondering where to begin. When it comes to my preference, I prefer to stay away from plastic lunch boxes for a number of reasons including the potential for hormone disruption and the impact that they can have on the environment.
I love that there is now the option to purchase stainless steel lunch boxes. They are not only good for the environment but they are also very stylish and popular with the kids. If you do decide to go with a plastic lunch box try to find one that is BPA free, lead free and free from PVC and phthalate. Lets take a look at some of my fave school lunch boxes.
The Planetbox Rover stainless steel lunch box is the perfect lunch box if you want to send your children to school with no plastic or packaging. It has separate compartments that keep the different foods in their own spots. This lunch box also comes with two dipper tubs that can be used for yoghurt, dips and anything that is wet or messy. The lunch box itself is not designed to be waterproof, so it is advised not to put wet foods in it. However the containers do have watertight seals so you can safely put those foods in them without worrying about them leaking throughout the school bag.
The stainless steel design keeps foods cooler for longer, so your ice-brick should be enough to keep it cool all day. There is a range of additional items that you can purchase to go with the lunch box including a carry bag and some fun magnets to individualize them for each kid. These come in lots of funky designs so you can let your child choose which one they love the most.
They are higher up the price range but should last a lifetime!
Ever Eco stainless steel containers
There will be times when you do not need a full lunch box, or you need an additional container that you can put treats in. I love the Ever Eco stainless steel containers for this exact thing. They come in a handy set of three that are all different sizes, meaning there will be one for everything you need. It is also super handy that you can store them inside of each other in cupboard, with the lids on – so no more missing lids!
These stainless steel containers are leak free and free of any nasty toxins. Making them perfect for little peoples lunches and snacks.
Tuck a Stacker – 3 in 1 stainless steel lunch boxes
Another stainless steel lunch box option that I love is the Tuck A Stacker system. This system gives you three separate compartments that nestle into each other perfectly. It gives you a versatile way of packing your children lunch without having to worry about food mixing too much. You can set it out in a way that works best for your child, such as recess at the top and lunch down below.
These boxes are not water tight, so it is not recommended to put watery foods that might leak into them.
lunchbots small stainless steel lunch boxes
These stainless steel lunch boxes are great for those who don’t want to take a lot of food with them. Or for a quick outing during the day. It is a smaller size lunch box that has four snack size compartments. These are great for snacks such as nuts, popcorn, cold meats and grains. The lunchbots range are not water tight, so it is recommended not to put watery foods that might leak in them.
U Konserve stainless steel thermos
Not all lunches need to go into a lunch box. Foods such as soup and casserole can still be taken to school for lunch. The U Konserve stainless steel thermos is your answer to keeping those yummy left overs warm and edible during the day. This thermos is able to keep the contents whether it is food or drink either hot or cold, depending on what you have in it.
It can be used in the morning for a hot chocolate on the way to school. With yummy left overs in it for lunch. You can also use it to keep drinks cold during those hot summer days at school.
Getting ready to go back to school and back to the daily lunch making can be a daunting time. Especially if you have been on Pinterest and seen some of the set up’s people have.
