It is almost back to school time which means it is time to start thinking about lunch boxes and how best to send your children to school with their lunch. There are so many different lunch boxes on the market these days that you may find yourself wondering where to begin. When it comes to my preference, I prefer to stay away from plastic lunch boxes for a number of reasons including the potential for hormone disruption and the impact that they can have on the environment.

I love that there is now the option to purchase stainless steel lunch boxes. They are not only good for the environment but they are also very stylish and popular with the kids. If you do decide to go with a plastic lunch box try to find one that is BPA free, lead free and free from PVC and phthalate. Lets take a look at some of my fave school lunch boxes.

Planetbox Rover

The Planetbox Rover stainless steel lunch box is the perfect lunch box if you want to send your children to school with no plastic or packaging. It has separate compartments that keep the different foods in their own spots. This lunch box also comes with two dipper tubs that can be used for yoghurt, dips and anything that is wet or messy. The lunch box itself is not designed to be waterproof, so it is advised not to put wet foods in it. However the containers do have watertight seals so you can safely put those foods in them without worrying about them leaking throughout the school bag.

The stainless steel design keeps foods cooler for longer, so your ice-brick should be enough to keep it cool all day. There is a range of additional items that you can purchase to go with the lunch box including a carry bag and some fun magnets to individualize them for each kid. These come in lots of funky designs so you can let your child choose which one they love the most.

They are higher up the price range but should last a lifetime!

Tuck a Stacker – 3 in 1 stainless steel lunch boxes

Another stainless steel lunch box option that I love is the Tuck A Stacker system. This system gives you three separate compartments that nestle into each other perfectly. It gives you a versatile way of packing your children lunch without having to worry about food mixing too much. You can set it out in a way that works best for your child, such as recess at the top and lunch down below.

These boxes are not water tight, so it is not recommended to put watery foods that might leak into them.
